Integrated Development of Samadhis Samta Sthal (as associate with Late Prof. M. Shaheer)

Delhi Gate, Opposite Rajghat, New Delhi

Samta Sthal is the memorial site of India's former Deputy Prime Minister and pioneer of social justice, Babu Jagjivan Ram, located opposite the Raj Ghat adjacent to the Delhi Gate wall in New Delhi. His last rites were performed here on the same day. This marble-adorned memorial is built on a simple square platform, with a black granite slab on top. Around the memorial, 4 granite walls have been erected for an enclosure and a gently sloping path leads to the Samadhi square from the south side.

There are lush green lawns, shaded trees, and pathways, which provide the place with a serene, sacred, and meditative atmosphere. To the east of Babuji’s samadhi is Mata ji (Mrs. Jagjivan Ram’s samadhi) which is in the form of a lotus in a kund with Mata ji’s feet impression inscribed on marble stone. Being in proximity of Darya Ganj, this is the most visited Samadhi by the old Delhi residents, who come here for morning walks, yoga and recreation.
